Poor widdle Mordred, all he needs is to add a pathetic cough or two. Meanwhile, Locher’s subtle hints suggest that the storm could be very bad, that the Dipsy Duo forgot they climbed the stairs, that they are perhaps a trifle damp and chilly, and that Mordred may not be overly fond of his companion.

The great mystery is how Horn Hair’s horn always sprouts on the side of her head away from the readers.

So what Locher’s saying, basically, is that if you’re a kid and you meet somebody online, it’s OK to meet them in person, just as long as you’re cautious.

Mordred is blue … and obsessively cheerful … and the water continues to rise. This can only mean one thing: Smurf’s up!

I see the water dripping off of the handrail and coming in the window. Out side it looks like the “surfs up” as the waves are getting higher and higher. How deep is this “lake?” It looks more like the ocean.

In the last panel there’s an open hatch in the ceiling above Mordred. If it’s at the bottom of a storage bin, it’s badly placed and badly designed–it would have caused a major grain spill if it broke during use. If it’s a skylight or roof access, where’s the rain water?

The kid in Slimeslobbers Textbook has horn hair and a moronic look. Has the Chief got a secret?

Crimestoppers is a bit late to the party. One of my favorite talk-show hosts suggested meeting people you meet online only at the police station. That way, when the person you meet turns out to be a weirdo you’re in the right place to call for protection.

Tracy, I wonder: If somebody I had in custody had spent the last hour telling me that he was going to kill me, would I remove his chains because he asked me to? Probably not. But then, the difference is that I would have had brains enough not to get into this fix in the first place— so all bets are off in this arc, eh?

Crimestoppers textbook: When a person says she is ‘really concerned’ but has an unfurrowed brow, and the artist drawing that person shows in the next panel that he is perfectly capable of drawing a furrowed brow, that person is lying.

OMG, WTF does “super” cautious mean? I looked it up at www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=super and it says

super 1)A word meaning good or excellent, hasn’t been used seriously in decades

So does that mean, like, totally cautious? Or awesome cautious? Or, like, totally paranoid? Gag me with a spoon!

Tracy is talking about NOT taking his clothes off (while removing his tie) to a man wrapped in leather and chains in an abandoned building. This is getting kinky.

I’ll betcha his tie will reappear tied before this story is over.

Dr. Midnight, I’d have to agree. If a murder can be done right in front of them and they do nothing (the science museum arc) what are the chances they’ll put down the donuts and coffee long enough to even notice a rape happening right in the foyer of the police hooters building?

I wonder where Dick Locher gets his ideas for how cops operate??? Surely it can’t be from observing real police. Even the worst of the lot I’ve ever seen perform better than the Locher version does.

“Ha ha ha hee hee…” Wait a minute. Is that Junior Samples behind that gimp mask? Well, that’s just super.

Man, their clothes must be super wet. And those chains must be super heavy. And those super rickety stairs and that super creaky door - they should definitely contact the Super.

Those bags of grain would also make a super supper, but that’s beside the point. And stop calling me Shirley.

Well, the Sunday strip is here to read Of the ”Crimestoppers” we should heed Be careful of who you meet They may turn out to be not so neat To the story I now do turn Though you’d think that I would learn The storm still rages about the mill Mordred threatens still to kill His mask a riot of emotion As if animated by a potion Just how that can be Is certainly a mystery to me Cold and wet, soggy too What on earth will Tracy do The look in his steely eye As he loosens his old school tie I just can’t help snickering Over their constant bickering Lacking any thrills Bereft of any chills The story along does trudge In need of more than just a nudge Remove the chains, let Mordred free So he can go hee, hee, hee Surely Thick is not the dumb But I fear that is what’s to come About those panels, Gweedo’s right All the rest is just a fright Will he drown or will he hang I just really don’t give a dang.

Thank you, davidf42, billdi and Nvash.

woodworker318 said, about 11 geological epochs ago: “Out side it looks like the “surfs up” as the waves are getting higher and higher. How deep is this “lake?” It looks more like the ocean.”

It *is* the ocean. Continental drift has been carrying the abandoned granary into a subduction zone. Not only will it soon (well, in the geologic pace of the Locher Mess Monster) be beneath the ocean, not long after that it will be drawn under the continental plate, melted and spat from a volcano. I predict an eruption in early March, which will spit a new, refined-by-fire, ready-for-action Dick Tracy into the world.

I am thoroughly convinced he knows us! 100% convinced! And I wouldn’t be surprised is one panel later will be a picture of a full moon - which, would be the closest he can come to sending us his thoughts!

Helmsman, bring this granary around. We’ll have to run before this gale.

Some how, some way, the granary comes about, showing its rear doors to the gathering storm. It gathers way as it begins to move in the increasing seas. Thick and Mordred begin to realize this wasn’t such a sharp idea, the rest of us figured that out in the opening panels of this arc.

Questions: Supposing a granary could float, how long would it take Locher to bring it to a lee shore?

Given the bad things that happen to ships when they hit lee shores in bad storms (look it up, it ain’t good) how can anybody think a granary would fare better?

What kind of expressions would we see on Mordred’s mask if this granary actually DOES start to move in the seas?

Locher might have the granary float away, although he may not have enough time left to move it anywhere.

Maybe his plan is to have Thick and Morbid fight on the top floor. At the opportune moment, the rotting old floor gives way under the weight of Morbid and his forty frickin’ pounds of chains. Morbid plummets down to the now-flooded first level, where he is dragged underwater by his forty frickin’ pounds of chains. Thick tries to rescue him, but those rickety stairs collapse and there’s no way to reach Morbid before he drowns.

I still think Locher wants to hang Morbid, but that could be too dramatic for his tastes. Actually I don’t care if they manage to set the granary on fire and burn to death, just as long as it ends this arc.

Hey, I just got back from work. I was using a smallish tractor (A JD 1445. Thanks for asking!) to clear snow, but there was a huge pile at the end of the sidewalk courtesy of Mister Plow… so I told myself I’d do like Dick and make a “power approach.” Spent the next half hour digging the darned thing out after high-centering on some ice. I think there’s a moral here somewhere. Something about never, ever doing anything suggested by Dick Locher. When do the new guys start again?

I need some Irish cocoa, stat.

WW The hits keep coming and so does the water. I think puddleglum1066 Has it right about continental drift. I never thought about it that way. I thought with all of the global warming that the ocean had risen that even though they are many miles from it. Just goes to show that anything is possible in this strip.
