All the Democratic candidates can form a street gang and go on a shooting spree on Fifth Avenue…and they’d STILL be better than Il Douche by light years!!!!!
I don’t care what they do or don’t do, what they say or don’t say. I have my preferences where policy is concerned, but the incumbent usurper has BURIED the bar for candidate qualification.
All I want from a President is someone who can act like a decent human being. That’s it! They don’t even have to BE decent human being, the just have to act like it. That’s the BARE MINIMUM I require from a candidate.
Since we know Il Douche can’t deliver on that front (not to mention every other disastrous aspect of his presidency), it’s time to MOVE ON, AMERICA!!!
It is going to be interesting to watch the race to be the farthest left until the convention………and then a sudden reversal to bring it back to appeal to the other 60%-70% of our nation that will vote and choose between Mr. Trump and whoever it may be.
Oh, PLEASE. They finally found their way back to FDR, and that makes them “bat-crap leftie”?? You KNOW better than that, Mr. Stantis. The truth is that the GOP is “bat-crap RIGHTIE.” Certainly William F. Buckley would say so. So would Ronald Reagan.
The only races that the Democrats need to run moderates for are congressional seats and state legislative positions in deep red states. It worked in 2018 pretty well, and could work again in 2020. The D’s need to get back to local levels that the R’s have been working on dominating since Nixon (eg., the southern strategy bit), but without the racism.
And yet who lied us into a war that is still going on? Republicans. Who voted for permanent tax cuts for billion-dollar corporations? Republicans. Who are voting to destroy women’s health? Republicans. Who has torn children from parents and dumped them all into cages? Republicans. Who cheated and stole to gain the upper hand to win an election? Republicans. Who knows more Russians than any group in our history? Republicans. Who allows a malignant narcissist spit and crap on the Constitution and traditional norms? Republicans. Who has been working at destroying fair elections for decades? Republicans. Who sold weapons to Iran? Republicans. Who has been working since FDR’s time to strip social security, medicare, social programs that help the poor and elderly and disabled? Republicans. I’m sure there are more examples but I’m getting down from my soapbox.
The things that leftist Democrats are proposing — universal health care, for example — are standard operating procedure in advanced countries. Canadians and Europeans look at America’s approach — everything based on the profit motive — and say, “Now, that’s bat-crap crazy.”
You know what else is nuts? The common American view that the US has nothing to learn from other societies — including societies that are healthier and happier than the US.
It seems odd that both the liberal and “conservative” Kommentariat (but especially the “conservative”) seem unaware of where public opinion actually is on the subjects raised by the so-called radicals. The apparent support for Biden has more to do with a species of name recognition than with preference for his policies (whatever they are—mainly cribbed from Obama, apparently). Ask just about any other question and a majority of Americans are “progressive” and getting more so all the time.
As for resistance to “Medicare for all” and the loss of private health “insurance”, maybe it would be informative to ask those who have left behind their private “insurance” when they went on Medicare what their opinion is of the two kinds of coverage.
Uh, no, no, not ‘bat-crap leftie’ at all; that would be me, and believe you me, not one of the current Dem candidates, except maybe sometimes Bernie, is much further left than that ol’ left-of-center: it’s just that the right has gone so far bat-crap right that reasonable left seems so radical.
Mr. Stantis: The Democratic candidates range from mid-right all the way to Bernie. If you’re allowed to vote in the primary / attend the caucus, then you get a say in which one goes on the ballot to beat the current Imperial Malignancy. If not, may I mildly suggest that you just butt out?
Yes. Let the socially oriented people, called socialists or lefties in the US (would be Social Democrats and Greens in Germany), vote for their own Social Democrat party and candidates. The problem of the US two-party centered system is, that voters of the Dems (in Europe they would be called Conservatives) always attack the “lefties” who dare to vote for their candidates, and they try to force them voting for the Dems, because otherwise they’d be guilty that the Reps win. But this makes no sense any more. More and more Americans think green and social democrat, and the Dems stay conservative. But continuing the old way of voting Dem in the end hinders the upcoming of a green social party. At the current, the US political party system is frozen in time. The “lefties” should vote green social democrat, no more Dem. Half of the real democratic Dems will follow sooner or later. The conservative Dems will merge into the Reps and save these from becoming/staying an extreme right-winged party. And the Dem party will evaporate. In the US absolute majority system, this is the only way to evolve. Yes, there are more than two main political streams. Alas, they cannot be represented in the US system, though.

The candidates are finally getting to where the American people are. If you poll them on issues, they’re liberal.
It’s when the Democrats run republican-lite candidates that Americans stay home and let evil triumph.

But when Trump and Yertle openly chase the favor of the far right, that’s hunky-dory, right?

I listen to Shields and Brooks on NPR Fridays. I used to like them, since they were sane and not terribly partisan.
Now, their unrelenting “moderation”, and ascribing it to all of America, drives me bat-crap crazy.

We don’t? Have you asked us? Or are you just listening to your own echo chamber?
