The tax people now run what the DMV used to do. In and out in 10 minutes.

The Indiana BMV is actually efficient. I can usually get in and out in about 20 minutes.

Here in Spain I have to drive 60 miles, book an appointment at least a week in advance and then wait 20+ minutes. Most people use an “Gestor”, a type of lawyer.

I have to give a shout-out to my local DMVs and tag offices (in Georgia,no less). They are methodical about getting your number and have a good number of agents to help, so the wait rarely exceeds 20 minutes. The only problem is the distance between DMV offices.

Back in the early days of cellphones, I had a company phone (brick). I was in line at DMV and noticed an empty line, but it was Appointment Only. I called the number on the wall and made an appointment for five minutes in the future. Walked over to the woman and got my business done.

Guess I can’t complain. 90% of my interactions with the DMV can be done online, and my last visit to get a new RealID license took less than 10 minutes.

The wait at the DMV in Siler City, NC may be a tad long, but the official is so pleasant it is a pleasure going there. Will return for my RealID soon.

I’m glad to see so many positive comments about efficient DMV offices. Ours here is just as good, with short waits and very friendly service. It wasn’t always that way but now that it seems to be a trend maybe they won’t be the butt of jokes as much.

In Massachusetts, we are in the midst of a scandal at the RMV. Boxes of unread notices from other states about unsafe drivers who should have their licenses pulled years ago. Governor wrings his hands and calls it a shame. If you want quick efficient service, go to the local AAA office.
