Somehow, I’d envisioned this as a high-tech, not a trench, war.

It all started when that radical Irving Berlin wrote Home for the Holidays in 1942.

Clement Moore started this whole mess with his book Twas The Night Before Christmas and after the Civil War retailers declared war on Christmas by pimping his version of Santa and continuously expanding the season to rake in more profits. the official start date seems to be Halloween now and soon it will be Labor Day.

The war on Christmas was started by greedy businessmen, but don’t tell that to modern “conservatives”.

A 20+ Year war is benefiting someone, somewhere…..At the cost of innocent lives…for greed and stupidity.

Quite ironic, as the characters in this comic are part of the war on Christmas. Some of my Muslim friends actually believe Santa Claus is part of the “Christmas Story” – I had to set them right and explain that he is the product of crass commercialism intended to detract from the true meaning of the holiday.

Kind of shows how ridiculous that whole hyperbole is. The cultural friction should be kept in perspective. Nobody’s making war on Christmas. One side just wants people to be more multi-culturally sensitive to the fact that the religious side of the holiday is not celebrated by everyone, and the other side wants to feel free to express and practice their religion without being made to feel uncomfortable or guilty about it. Hyperbole like “war on Christmas” gets in the way of civil solutions and communication. Also, I would agree that if someone wishes you a Merry Christmas and you get offended, you’re the one with the problem and not them, as they are only wishing you well and to be happy, not demanding that you convert to Christianity.

There never was a time when there was “peace and good will towards men”.

In the US, the government cannot sanction a religious holiday: IE 1st Amendment. In order to give employees the day off, they needed to “convert” Christmas into a secular holiday. Thus there is a Religious side (Jesus) and a Secular side (Santa) to Christmas. Business/Retail has capitalized on the secular side for financial gains, but the religious side is there for anyone that wants to practice it.
