A genuinely funny strip, one of my favorites! Great unexpected imagery of the foot in the wall, the comedic timing of the “okey-dokey” and the “wham” and also, well-utilized throwaway panels. Great strip today Crane!
I get my vacuum and kill them that way…the big ones….little ones I just hit with my shoe and clean it up. I am NOT a bug lover….hate them all of them. And yes I know they have a purpose. However, I prefer they do it outside and not in my house.
The most I’ve ever done against the spiders in my kitchen was to trim back the web when they started getting all territorial. Chloe had gotten to several times the mass she was the first time I’d seen her, so I know she didn’t need a bug-trap that big to feed her.
A couple of weeks ago one of the girls had decided to go for a nice leisurely walk across the kitchen floor instead of staying and looking after her web. The rest of you probably would have stepped on her. I just stayed out of her way until she reached safe cover on the opposite end of the room.
Reminds me of the great classic, Henry’s Awful Mistake https://www.amazon.com/Henrys-Awful-Mistake-Henry-Duck/dp/1534415408/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1HOYUBI7HFA6Z&keywords=henry%27s+awful+mistake+by+robert+quackenbush&qid=1574595490&sprefix=Henry%27s+Awful+Mistake%2Caps%2C286&sr=8-1
Leaving the warning reminds me of my theory of fly swatters. The fly is always around until you pick up the swatter. Then is disappears. Why? It can smell the death of its brethren.
Earl in real life would have taken a newspaper (especially the section Opal usually reads), swatted the spider, and left it smashed on the wall for Opal to clean. The next time she’d simply take care of it herself or at least ask him (“please” and “thank you” are not in her vocabulary) to do it instead of shrieking and then ordering him.

in the fourth to the last panel, I would’ve thought Earl took of the spider a little too hard with his newspaper rolled up

How does he know that the spider is dead? He can’t see it anymore. Normally, I would use a shoe that I’m not wearing.

I think this is a plot of Earl’s to get Opal to stop asking him to do things kind of like what Ray Barone did.

What? Who kicks the wall to kill a spider? A Kleenex or fly swatter would have sufficed……LOL!

put a little sign next to the hole: attn spiders – don’t let this happen to you. That should do it.
