My husband had a secret recipe for the best spaghetti & sauce. He shared it with no one. In 2010, he almost died. He survived, and the next time he made his spaghetti, he had me sit down at the computer and type every single direction so that he could pass it on to me & the girls if anything ever happened again. He also shares it with almost everyone.
I’ve never understood why people jealously guard their recipes. It just seems silly to me. (FYI: Businesses, on the other hand, I completely understand.) Our family has a bean salad recipe my grandmother created. We have no problems sharing it. Joy and tastiness should be shared!
My wife’s grandmother finally handed out her recipe for a Swedish cardamom bread, but it never came out right. So my wife helped her grandmother make a batch while correcting the recipe. A tablespoon of butter was more like a quarter cup – all the hard butter that she could scoop up with a tablespoon. Spices were mismarked or missing, etc.. Now if my wife would only make some again! That stuff is great!

You forget who you are dealing with Rose. Mom shares her recipes with no one.

Nice try, Rose…did you ACTUALLY think that she would let her guard down for even one moment?

A few years ago our neighbor had a bumper crop of jalapeños. My daughter made over a peck of pickled peppers. They were great!

What’s going on with the jars on the shelves behind Rose? Changing quantity… changing colour?

But they wouldn’t have that secret ingredient, Mom’s love.

That’s kinda dumb. If anyone should know a family recipe, it should be your family!

Some people have made whole careers out of “secret recipes.”

Saw a recipe on Youtube (“Binging with Babish”) where he adds sugar to the pickling liquid. Never thought of that, but sounds good.

Going to take take that recipe to the grave, are you?

A tip from Peter Piper. Always pick up your pickled peppers first, then joke; lest perchance they vanish and everybody wonders where they went.

Our aunt died and took all her recipes with her.
