When they first changed the law to expand DST I had an old Windows 95 or 98 machine and Micro Soft did not send out an update for the change and there was no easy way to update the registry yourself. In the spring I manually set the clock forward and a few weeks later the machine set the clock forward another hour. I WAS MAD AS HELL AND WASN’T GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE. ;-) So I went on line a found instructions on which parameters in the registry needed to be changed, to what values, and how to do it. Thank goodness for all those smart geeks who share their knowledge.
when I was in the military, I had to do a lot of tdy all over the world. a few months there and then moved on to another time zone. everyone I work with dealt with it.
Try changing the time on a digital watch. It is a 12 step process, unlike an analog watch that takes one step. Pull the stem, wind backward or forward. Simple. But..no one said progress and technology makes things easier. Often as not, it makes them more difficult.
Spring forward (lose an hour) and Fall back (gain an hour) messes you up both ways. It isn’t natural and isn’t healthy for human beings. It needs to end.
For all those complaining about what a hardship it is to change your clocks, just note that our power went out twice today (as it often does), and the clocks all had to be set again and again….but somehow, we all managed.
We used to change the clocks ahead on the weekend we were away for husband’s birthday and back on the weekend we were away for my birthday. In those days we stayed we stayed in hotels, not our little RV when we traveled. I always figured that we lost out in the hotel night price the hour less his birthday weekend, but made it back the weekend of mine. Then they changed the spring ahead to a month earlier, so we were “ahead” the extra hour at the hotel for my birthday.
Actually the hour change is a real problem when one has certain medical conditions. Juggling insulin around the hour changes is a problem.
We also both have trouble falling asleep earlier this time of year – too hard to do. When husband worked and was not with me all the time, I basically woke up an hour later and kept to standard time – I would of course show up where I had to be on time, but would sleep in an hour and go to bed an hour late to stay on standard time.
People are amazed to find out that with time zones the time where one is standing is actually generally a different natural time than the time one thinks it is. There is an hour difference in natural time over the standard time zone – those at the east end when it is almost 1 pm, it is really almost 2 pm, and those on the western end the opposite is true – it is only in the center of the time zone that the time is the correct natural time. Time in period was natural time (time zones being invented in the 1800s for railroad timetable purposes). One would look at sun dial to get the correct time and adjust watches and clocks to same.

I never understood this business of putting clocks “back” or “forward”. Mine don’t go either way. They just go round and round.

For dogs and people with internal clocks, Time Change is worse than Climate change.

Reseting themselves automatically might get a little awkward as they seem to be wanting to get rid of the time change completely now.

Just another thing I love about being retired: clocks don’t really matter anymore. :-)
