It doesn’t surprise me Pastis would introduce a new pet into the strip solely for the purpose of getting laughs. Irresponsible! (Actually, if memory serves, he once had a cat in Pearls named Snuffles.)
That song was EVERYWHERE in 1980-1981. It was also my mother’s favorite song from the Urban Cowboy soundtrack so I couldn’t escape it.
