The last piece of cake or pie tends to hang around for ages. I won’t take it because I think he may like it. He won’t take it because he thinks I would like it. By the time we either cut in in half or just eat the darned thing, it’s definitely past its best.
The pie-maker never fears someone else eating the last piece of the current pie. In our pantry I have canned pie filling for lemon, cherry, blueberry and mincemeat pies, and apples in the fridge if I want to take the extra time. I can whip up a crust in under 15 minutes using our Kitchen Aid mixer, and Viola – oops – voila – pie is cooking in the oven.

My spouse keeps personal treats where I won’t find them. And I’m pretty careful not to go looking for them.

I did that the last time I ordered pizza. I saves some for the next day or at least I intended to save some for the next day.

But Earl will die happy and with a full stomach.
(Besides, maybe he ate the slice from last week and the one she wants still awaits her.)

That slice was large enough to cut in half. :)

My first thought would have been: “If I don’t eat that last piece of pie, someone else will!”

Opal, if there’s one lesson you should have learned by now…she who hesitates is lost….out on the last piece of pie!

You should be happy, Opal. You didn’t eat the last piece, just like you said!

I always ask before taking the last of something in the fridge. It saves a lot of grief and aggravation.
