She’s right, WW1 was the first (European) war where more soldiers died of war than of disease.

I think calling it a war makes it too easy to dismiss the casulties as inevitable. They weren’t. South Korea has about the same population as California, and more than an order of magnitude fewer deaths.

Please don’t complain about the lack of masks and the physical contact. It’s a cartoon, so escape a little. And if you need a hug too, I’m giving you one right now.

What a miserable state of affairs when parents are less worried — and legitimately so — that their children will be molested by some perverted stranger than that they’ll be infected and killed by a perfectly nice, ordinary nabor.

This is something I found on Twitter – disturbing.

To be specific, I believe combat wounds pulled ahead in the Boer War of 1899-1902.

Give it a rest folks! Comics have always been wry, ironic social commentaries on our lives in the real world. This one gives a thought to MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND and shows a little girl realizing this world is a big place and her Aunt is not gonna be here to help her neice grow up in it. Thank God, she has Frazz…in the real world, we sometimes forget children have to mourn and cry and can feel very lonely without the people who have died, just because they are better at forgetting the loss for a while.

Today’s strip is beautiful, and I wholeheartedly agree with it. Frazz has always shown great empathy for kids. He is both a mentor and a guide. As a retired teacher, I can say many students’ lives would have been much more fulfilling had we had more support people with his qualities.

On the other hand, I have absolutely no clue how today’s comments changed direction from compassion and sadness to perversion. Seems some people’s minds move in whole different – and very grim – grooves from the rest of us. Such bleakness. Tragic.

The difference between art and entertainment is that art stimulates are emotions. Thank you Frazz for elevating this genre and our Memorial Day weekend.

And this time, the American “military” is grossly underfunded instead of grossly overfunded.

We were so relieved when it was decided that one of our nieces was best utilized back in her specialty of oncology.

Jef Mallett’s Blog Posts.Frazz15 hrs · I always wanted to draw a comic strip for a living, but drawing and publishing a daily one in my teens showed me that I wasn’t ready yet, and that it was a dicey proposition anyway, and that an actual college education might be a good idea. I went to nursing school, of all things. And after a year, I made a dumb decision that somehow worked out for me: I dropped out and went to work, with no degree or any credentials at all in hand, for the newspaper. It did work out, of course. Life is good even though I’m not a registered nurse. I never enlisted in the military, either, and even though I have the utmost respect for those who did, I never felt like I failed to fulfill an obligation.

The nurse thing, though? These days? I confess I feel something like survivor’s guilt.

I’ve lost one middle-aged friend with kids in college to the corona virus and another, who was a Rosie the Riveter in The War, is losing her fight to it in an isolation ward and I don’t think I’ll ever get to see her again.

Too many people regard COVID as a problem to be solved, instead of a war to be won. Though we’re winding up with a standoff, not a win.
