This is a very real problem right now. Otherwise successful restaurants are struggling due to the dramatically reduced amount of customers. Of the 5 independent restaurants in my town, 1 just plain closed with no word if it’s temporary or permanent. It had been open longer than I’ve been alive.
IF you can afford it, consider ordering some take out from your favorite independent local restaurants. They’ve been there for you when you needed a dinner out. Be there now for them if you can.
We “eat out” err take out 2 days a week at local places. One seems to be just as busy with take out as they were prior (which is obviously good). Other places haven’t been able to …
However you feel about it, understand that the words following “Out of an abundance of caution” will also mean ‘we will destroy the economy and the lives of millions’. So balancing this is not good no matter what.
Sometimes I cannot believe what I’m reading. The only reliable way to protect yourself at the moment is to not come into contact with the virus. Our top priority at the moment should be protecting those who are keeping the machine running at the current minimum level, not worrying about our freedom to go out and accidentally infect someone or get infected.
Some folks here are saying bankruptcy is worse than death. These folks have not actually experienced either.
Many of us can help our favorite local places by going beyond take out to buying some gift certificates and, where allowed, buying food and other items.
JJ, on the positive side, these topical strips you’ve been coming up with show a great deal of creativity. They show a somewhat darker humor for a darker time.
On the negative side, this one has touched the kids and it’s brought out more than the usual trolls, pseudo experts and the unnecessarily frightened.
Sorry about your business Kids, but there will be a lot of collateral damage in this war. It should be a lasting reminder of the importance of being politically involved at all levels AND voting.
If we had a sane and intelligent president then the problems would be far less now. Think about it! We have gone from C19 is a hoax to it will disappear magically by April to let’s try ingesting bleach or other disinfectants. Two months of inaction followed by incompetence at all levels. We will be paying for General Bonespurs dementia and corruption for many years in many ways.
Worse part is that he still has 40% support. Never underestimate the stupidity of the American voter.
The cure will be worse than the disease. Anyone who says otherwise probably “works from home” and never missed a paycheck or works for the government and also never missed a paycheck. Millions of small businesses across the country will not reopen no matter how much money the government prints to prop them up. This will send a ripple effect through the whole economy as more and more people file for bankruptcy.
Time to snap out of it folks.Sars, no cure. Mers, no cure. H1N1, no cure. Avian, no cure. Ebola, no cure. HIV, no cure. Common cold, no cure. Hong Kong flu, no cure. Etc etc etc. Treatments but no cures. Yet we survive and live with them. They’ll probably always be with us, life is fragile but not risk free.Gotta trust the ingenuity of man and our ever evolving immune systems, step on out and get back to living.Let’s not forget the consequences of our current path, the potential secondary results, we’re already seeing it happen, the increase in suicides, (close to home – Pat and Cheryl were friends) spousal abuse, child abuse, divorce, increased crime, etc and more poverty driving it all. The actions being taken could end up being worse for us than the virus itself.
You know, when this is over, and it will be over at some time in the future, there will be an enormous, pent-up demand for eating out, seeing films, and mega shopping. There is going to be such a spike in demand it will be scary.
Meanwhile, hang in there service providers. Your time is coming.

A real problem, balancing costs in life and livelihood, the unseen versus the seen. Hard to be sure of the numbers

Your bankruptcy is a price others are willing to pay for their illusion of safety.

Since COVID-19, most restaurants offered drive-thru service and take out and even GrubHub/Door Dash/Uber Eats/Postmates delivery!

All seriousness aside, we waited an awful long time, and JJ went an awful long way to serve up that pun.

I was wondering when he was going to get back to the kids. I would be interested in reading a spinoff comic featuring the kids- just saying.

Deliver gourmet food to town. People should be sick of pizza by now. You had all the equipment to cater, to keep food warm.
Make up “food kits” to cook a gourmet meal with all the ingredients pre-measured and cooking instructions. Deliver the kits.

I don’t think those two worked out a realistic business plan before they started that bistro.
