Coming Soon đ At the beginning of April, youâll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your

Very first speech ever at what is now known as âSpeakerâs Cornerâ, which centered on the topic, âWhy recruits should never make passes at the generalâs daughterâ.
âSee? I told you that Iâm taller than you!ââOh, for gods sake get off of that. We have work to do. That negro isnât going to lynch himself.â
I suspect that this is a Yankee guarding a Rebel captive, who is being âpunishedâ by standing on the box and holding a log. Painted in 1863 â Homer was a war correspondent (for Harperâs Magazine, I believe). He painted many such works, stressing the contrast between the relatively âorderlyâ, well-equipped Yankees and the shabby, rustic (yet generally courageous) Rebs. BTW: that war seems to be continuing. DistressingâŚ
âPrisoners from the Frontâ is Winslow Homerâs best-known Civil War painting. You can Googl the image. It is a âcousinâ to this work !! (sorry to be serious. LOL!)
all have info, or links that point to more info, about this artist, perhaps in addition to whatâs pointed to by the title URL. So far, 9 works by him have been used here (9 times, including 1 repeat).Â
has the prior work (my comment there has the same artist info URLs, the 6th of which may be unresponsive).

Again, a larger strip image is shown by (â- or Ctrl-) clicking the image in Mr. Melcherâs MASTERPIECE #2450 (May 14, 2020) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment.
Previous limerick was based on inaccurate assumption by pompous twit/author. Improved version (but no masterpiece !) The price of inebriation/ is a perch in a hot location/ in the blazing sun/near a bloke with a gun/ Tâis a strange kind of âelevationâ..
Abner Doubleday refining the rules of baseball: "OK. Standing on a box is now required for all batters. It considerably changes the strike zone AND lessens the likelihood of anyone hitting those boring home runs. ARE YOU LISTENING???
