Janis’ reading habits have never interested me. I am closer to Arlo’s age and always wonder about his need for water at bedtime or during the night. As one who stops liquids four hours prior to lights out, I wonder how he does it and how many times does he get up during the night.
It’s the only drink after noontime? Teensy tiny prostate? Super industrial strength bladder? Depends? Likes to take middle of the night walks but goes right back to sleep without any difficulty?
If he is a Nightwalker then how many times has he stubbed a toe On something, or stepped on/tripped over/kicked Ludwig in the darkness or Ludwig gotten thrown off the blanket to the floor?
Last night I finished “Y Is for Yesterday,” the last book in Sue Grafton’s alphabet mystery series. Her alphabet stops at “Y” because she died before completing the “Z” novel.
I think Janis means because you don’t get to close the book up with a satisfying clap, but also… a lot of ebooks these days have the beginning of the next book by the author so one never “finishes”
I resisted buying an e-reader for a long time but ended up getting a Kobo. I like being able to check out a book 24/7. The portability is a plus. I’ll still buy books I want to add to my collection.
I love that I don’t have to store, move and dust e-books. I love that I can enlarge the font, now that my eyesight ain’t what it used to be. Even better, I love audio books. Downside of audio books is that they are so much more expensive! Those voice actors like a good paycheck, I am sure.
I am a fast reader and can get through most books in one or two days. I have neither the space nor the money to purchase three new regularly priced books a week. I joined Kindle Unlimited and have a nice selection of books waiting for me, and it has become even more important to me to have that resource since the libraries closed. I do purchase some ‘real’ books after reading the ebook version if they make a deep impression on me.
I have enough trouble trying to read things on computer screens. I have been known to print out pages of IRS books when I need to read as so hard for me to follow on my desktop monitor screen. When my analog monitor finally bit the dust and I had to get a digital – which limits the time I can look at it, as it digital, to only a very short time, but he got me one that turns to vertical for reading – still does not help much.
Plus the books I read will probably not be available online – Last one I finished was “Eleanor of Aquitaine and the Four Kings” and I am currently a 2 book set on Queen Anne (of GB). too much knowledge unknown out there to read fiction.

Just fold shut the cover of your e-reader’s case.

Janis has the same burnt orange cover my wife’s Kindle had. She wore out the right side forward button.

e-readers make it easy to swipe books.

I miss the page turning, being able to flip through the pages, and closing the book at the end. What I do not miss is the weight in my bag.

I still read paperbacks and hard covers. Love the feel and just seems wrong to use a machine to read.

I’ll never get through all the real books I have. Don’t want an electronic version!
