I always get a kick out of watching the local stations brag about their doppler radar because it only ever shows what is happening in the immediate area and has very little predictive value. They all get their predictions from the National Weather service and then dress it up as being their own. Where it really gets weird is in putting their own spin on the info they often come up with conflicting conclusions between stations. While watching a station in Kansas City one day that had predicted a zero chance of rain while it was pouring outside, I called the station to tell them to look out the window. They politely told me that their Fox Four meteorologist knew his job. “Okay…I stand corrected.” I said and got out my umbrella to go to the store.

Local weather reports seem to emphasize their tech too much.
