I’m hearing that in NYC the city has been doing brief, unannounced “surprise” fireworks displays for several weeks during the virus difficulties. To amuse, cheer up? Has anyone there seen these? And what do people there think?
I’m assuming that this is a thing and not some urban legend.
Our town cancelled their fireworks this year, but the adjacent city will have their usual show launched from the tallest building downtown so visible for several miles. Of course, being in Indiana where you can buy just about anything, most of the neighborhoods are already being lit up and bombarded with sound from the home shooters.
Meh, it’s a tradition I can do without. Yeah, they’re all sparkly and pretty for a few seconds, but between the noise, smoke pollution and expense, and the fear it instills in thousands of animals, domestic pets for sure and probably plenty of wild creatures we are unaware of, I think it’s a tradition that could go by the wayside. Adios, farewell, ciao, bye-bye. In fact, for me, this artistic rendering of them is actually better than the real thing. Good job!

Unfortunately, probably not going to see much of that this year.

Also, looking at the dazzled witness here… a flashback to Li’l Danny C. experiencing the awe and mystery of Fourth of July displays.
Nice, in any event.

Life is a lot like fireworks, you can close your eyes and be scared or you can open them and enjoy the show.
