Not a defund fan but wonder if removing “qualified immunity” from positions that review, hire, fire would help get rid of the bad apples

We just need a better system.

It’s great that this strip is taking on this terrible problem.

Isn’t she ignoring the chain-of-command?

Just a reminder that the police maintain order and generate a lot of fines revenue for the city. Some towns generate more fines revenue than they collect from taxes.

Captain Ruiz is an irresistible force.

Where I live at we have Chief of Police has control of the officers.

What is really needed is far far better psychological testing of new police recruits. And repeat testing over the years to make sure criminal cops are kicked out. While we are at it, current police contracts need to be tossed out and police unions broken(the same way republican law firms got rid of other labor unions) They have very specific sections in their current contracts that explicitly protect criminal cops. Until the omerta that is currently practiced by police unions, is gone, every cop will lie, on their reports, in court, under oath to protect criminal cops.(The latest death in MN is a great example without film, the 3 cops with the killer would have lied) Then there was the cop in a line of cops in Chicago, who took exception to an unarmed black teen walking away from him. so he shot him, in the back, 16 times. Every other cop on the scene, wrote in their reports that the killer cop was shooting to protect himself from a knife wielding young black man. IAD went to every store and seized their security camera footage.A year later, film from a CPD dashcam surfaced, showing how every cop lied. To date, despite every cop having a radio on their person capable to recording audio, no audio has surfaced. since the film itself shows the young man was in fact murdered so the audio must have been much worse. Or the cop in NC, who murdered a black man trying to run away from him, then walked over and dropped his Taser next to the body. Only way we know about that is a passerby filmed the entire episode.So Make every cop have an operating body cam, that he can not turn off. Dissolve every police union and their contracts, Test every applicant before they start training, test every single cop and fire every one who fails the tests, stop giving police forces military equipment. The slogan “Protect and Serve” used to mean something, it no long dose because cops think of themselves as an Army, and the citizens they should “protect and serve” are the enemy.

Better do it, Mayor. You really don’t want to mess with Captain Ruiz!

The only “bad Apples” I see are rioting and looting. The problem isn’t the police!

Um… Shouldn’t she be calling the Police Chief/Director/Commissioner (whatever the correct term is for Philly) instead of the Mayor?

Instead, the rioters, looters, and arsonists took over.

We need more people like Ruiz.
