The cure isn’t reading. The cure is what you read.

Stupidity and ignorance are NOT the same thing. Though they do look similar from the outside. Reading cures ignorance, not stupidity. Nothing cures stupid.

I could swear Goat already made a similar joke not terribly long ago. But thanks, Rat, I’m sure everyone will listen to you and read the Twilight books and become geniuses.

Reading fiction can help improve empathy, and develop a stronger vocabulary. So reading nonfiction isn’t the only “cure” for stupidity.

Reading the most printed book isn’t helping with rampant stupidity, with most it’s boosting the plague.

I’ve been an avid reader practically my entire life. I’ve read everything from Shelley and Keats to Asimov and Clarke and most anything in between. I’ve even read the Bible a couple of times. (No, I don’t go to church.) As a result, I’m neither republican nor democrat, liberal or conservative.

I can equally anger people on both sides of the aisle!

Reading is fundamental to seeing through the fog of political conniving.

Shouldn’t Rat’s part be played by Goat today? Those lines would be more believable delivered by him.

The internet provides us with access to previously unimaginable amounts of information, in every field of academic study, news feeds from around the world, scientific publications, opinion pieces, literature of all sorts. And despite that, I see no signs that ignorance is decreasing. If we create a new metric, calculating how much we could know divided by how much we do know, let’s call it the GIQ, for Gross Ignorance Quotient, that’s increasing exponentially.
