Contentment is the the simple things in life: Prime rib, a fat bank account and affection from several directions….

… or deciding not to yell “Watch out below!” so that no-one comes up to ask stupid questions today.

Seems Kenny Rogers said something like that: “You got to know when to hold them and when to fold them”. Apologies to Kenny.

As part of my survival training I was a student POW. It’s looking at the real thing from 10 miles away through a telescope. However it gave me enough wit to understand a man who did it for real when he said it was the most important 6 years of his life.

When everything physical is taken away from you, when freedom of physical action is denied and when even your name is taken away from you, you have only one thing left: yourself. Anyone who has spent time in solitary confinement appreciates the being of others. Ironically, being alone makes you aware that you are part of the whole.

Fat bank accounts, fancy cars, impressive job titles, status, fame, popularity, glamor and all the physical metrics we use to measure success mean nothing.
