Alabama = a name. Arizona = pirates. District of Columbia for the comics. Hawaii = greeting. Idaho= identity. Kentucky = the jelly. Louisiana = singing. Oklahoma = a state of being. I’m sure there are others that I missed.
The comments to this strip are lost on all the hundreds and hundreds of people around the world who are not American and not familiar with all the abbreviations of each state. The caption explains it very well but only Americans will be able to comment intelligently.
I remember bumper stickers that girls would claim their boy friend’s name, I ( heart) Bob, I (heart) Ted, until you come upon the bumper sticker for Richard.
