never had a stray animal come by my apartment door… not even a dog as (as I’ve said countlessly) I’ve never owned a dog

My neighbor’s outside dog, Zeus, would show up evenings on my porch during rain storms knowing he could get inside for the night. He was a no nonsense guard dog otherwise.

Seeing as this is Pluggers, with anthropomorphic animals of all types, it could just be your neighbor dropping by… :-P

Being a small farm, at least three or four times a year we get animals dropped off, like Farms are rescues by default…

We lived on the edge of a ‘military’ town for many years and every year we had stray dogs and cats—some pedigreed, some not—show up the week that the military shipped out. They got dumped when their ‘owners’ were shipped overseas. Because this had been going on for many, many years, there was a pretty good unofficial network set up to find them new homes.

The dog is thinking “I followed your husband home, can he keep me?”

Growing up in the country we saw strays, some we kept, some we spayed/neutered or left to their own. Only so much one can do.

The strangest “rescue” we had was a peacock that showed up in the backyard a few years ago. (We have 32 acres in BFE.)

Like hobos had during the great depression there are signs marked on the gate.

One cat when he was a fluffy kitten, and one dog when she was a puppy. I’m ready and waiting for the next one to show up . . .

All of our pets have been rescues, but we never had one just show up at the door.

My daughter and I are planning to homestead when I retire. She wants to rescue feral strays (do a trap/de-sex/release kind of program), with the possibility of keeping one or two (or 3 or 4) as indoor cats. Depends on how many kittens come in that are calico. They would have to come with their momma, because they would not be born in the “pride” since everyone would be de-sexed. We are hoping to use them as pest control around the outbuildings. We would NOT expect them to live on what they catch, however. We would feed them and take them for regular check ups. This is not our first rodeo. LOL

I believe that there is an underground newspaper for animals whose best friend has passed on. I’ve adopted at least 20 (and still counting)

if i’d known she was going to stay with me for 19 years i might have thought twice about letting the ugly, stub-tailed, 6-toed, soaking wet calico who showed up on my back porch one rainy night come in…
