I once made a card for college graduate that said, “Congratulations, now your education really begins.”

One of the things that totally snuck up on me was the realization that at the age when my dad had retired, I still had homework! (and had for most of my life). Even more amazing: Most† of it after I reached the workforce was useful enough to actually be enjoyable… at least somewhat.

† Not, of course, all  of it.

Sorry, Caulfield. But you’re going to be 8 years-old forever.

You should use schools to learn “how to” learn. That gives you skills for learning for the rest of your life.

Which is why kids like to talk with Frazz. Always open to new ideas. Rarely puts down others. Doing a job that most would consider beneath them. And still smiling. Lots folks don’t get that.

When he’s 8 years old, 4 years of school is grades K, 1, 2, 3. But if 32 includes finishing high school (12 years) plus college (4), then somewhere that year of Kindergarten disappeared.

    1. I’m 76 and am still learning. And more important, UNlearning a lot too. 2. Knowledge is answering the questions. Wisdom is questioning the answers. Enlightenment (in the Buddhist sense) is no longer feeling the need to do either.

I remember having a very nice dinner at a restaurant on the day that I had outlived my father.
