I don’t see humor here. Unless I missed other times, this is the first time I have seen Caulfield refer to Mrs. Olsen in such demeaning and derogatory terms. I previously believed his classroom high jinks were done out of fun, a kind of friendly but respectful game playing. Now it appears he has fallen from his highest point [see Feb 08, 2015] as a precocious but thoughtful person to just mean. Mallett, beware of cuteness. It rarely translates well.

I don’t have the impression that Mrs Olsen is hidebound and clueless. Or that she’s mean to kids.

Nope. He’s toast.

Strange, when she wears her glasses, we can’t see her eyes at all.

Or maybe the differences in worldviews are due to their differences in age, gender, and race, but good luck proving that (maybe the age one in 50 years…)

Would someone please punish this kid? He’s not actually cute or likable, and his good vocabulary doesn’t exonerate him at all.

That must be a heck of a prescription for Mrs. Olsen to look like Frazz.
