It depends where you live. Tap water taste different in different places, and if you live in a place where the network isn’t maintained or the water supply is polluted (Flint & co) better drink bottled water, as long as that doesn’t come from straight from tap water (yep, some do). I don’t like the taste of water anyway so I look at the contamination level as the real test.
Well water where I am has to be pulled from deep underground – the stuff you hit first when drilling is the nastiest, filthiest water loaded with enough iron to make into steel. It costs more to drill that deep, but your plumbing, appliances, water filters and softener will be much happier. :-)
