GT knows how to propagandize — he uses a character who has obvious pc credentials in order to outflank any doubters

GT’s object is to distract attention from his backing of those who rule by apartheid

gladlythecrosseyedbear: Welcome to Earth, good buddy. Please feel free to look around until reality clears away your confused ideological fantasies.

(Seriously, whatever you’re on, did you bring enough to share with the rest of the group?)

You’d think a married man would know better than to divulge information so easily ;)

Please do NOT encourage Gladly. We used to get his Apartheid non sequiturs every day (its to do with US foreign policy, Palestine, etc.)

Great comeback in the last panel..Thirdguy, Varnes, SCAATY—I’m not 100% certain, but I’m thinking “gladlythecrosseyedbear” is the new name for a guy we learned to ignore about six months ago…

I’m guessing “gladly” is a proud graduate of Glenn Beck University.

Even taking away the shrapnel, expose most “arm chair heroes” back home to just the concussion of an IED or even a grenade, andy they’d be asking for better care of our vets-

    after they changed their Depends.

There might be some readers out there who don’t know the hymn “Gladly the Cross I’d Bear” so just thought I’d tip them off about the commenter’s name.

Trudeau has been getting mail from vets, left & right, since BD’s first tour of ‘Nam. He know’s “Ray.” He was a bit concussed to admit to being blown up 17 times to someone who’d want to take him out of action for observation.

OK civvies, now here’s what really happens at this point. 1) The Sergeant gets a fistful of happy pills to take and is sent back out. 2) The Sergeant is diagnosed with a “pre-existing personality disorder” and medically discharged in a manner that prevents him from receiving full benefits. 3) The Sergeant returns home, his marriage dissolves, and he becomes an alcoholic and/or addict who blows his own head off 1 to 3 years afterward. 4) If the suicide doesn’t happen, the Sergeant joins the 75% of his former comrades in arms out on the street in the ranks of the homeless. That’s what really happens. That’s what’s been happening since the days of Vietnam, and that’s what’s happening today. And now, back to our comic strip.

randgrithr, I hate to say that in many cases you are correct, but you are. And we have fidiots in Congress who think that they can correct the budget imbalance by trying to cut $$$ out of Defense and SS and Medicare. Who, in their right minds nominated these folks, let alone elected them? Old (couple of months, I think) story line concerning “DADT” brought back today in real time. The service chiefs have said they find no major problems getting rid of DADT, and the Teabaggers pushed through some amendments to the Defense Appropriations bill early this AM trying to counter DADT going away. What is wrong with those folks? You’d think they were homophobic, or something. Like the old Broadway hit, will someone “Stop the World, I wanna get off!”

The folks at the Navy Hospital in China Beach didn’t have MRIs and all that fancy stuff but they knew when they had a Marine sergeant with a few months shy of three years in country due to a full tour and four extensions they had one needing to go back to the world. After over 40 years of dealing with it, I suppose they might have been correct making that decision two extensions earlier. War is like being a heroin junky. Probably why so many war veterans become heroin junkies. And why so many others become bourbon and vodka junkies.
