That’s not exclusive to pluggers. They put those enormous bags of fun-sized candy bars near the front of the store doors and everyone buys them.

This plugger cannot eat any marshmallow candy, circus peanuts, or even candy corn to this day having had sports much over childhood days. It’s the same with the gelled candies like spearmint leaves and orange slices. Nope! No peeps, chocolate covered marshmallow pumpkins, Santas, Easter eggs, or bunnies.

My favorite was Snickers. I’d trade my sisters my Butterfingers for Paydays or Oh Henry! bars.

Nowadays I don’t eat many sweets at all but have fond memories. *sigh***!!

We make up sandwich bags with 4 or 5 pieces of candy in a bag. This year we made 75 bags and I ran out ! had to search house for more stuff ! My township did trick or treats last Sunday afternoon outside ;-)

Pluggers remember what the ‘good stuff’ is. It’s what they want in the house, if it’s not all given to the trick or treaters.

My “unfavorite” was some sort of clear blue, mint flavored candy. However – my sister and I were brought up to eat what was in front of us, so we dutifully ate it anyway. Come to think of it, that may explain my life-long aversion to mint candy of any sort.

Pluggers (like me) have learned over the years not to give out stuff like ribbon candy or Werthers, lest you wake up on Nov. 1 to find the front yard decorated with toilet paper and eggs.

I was just investigating “worst treats” and found bibles and other religious tracts, bologna slices, raisins, dental floss and used covid masks. ?!?!?

And just what is wrong with circus peanuts? I love those things to the point where I don’t dare keep them in the house.

That’s because most Pluggers are chocoholics.

I remember homemade popcorn balls, both receiving them and making them to hand out. We would do homemade candies and fudge. We would do cookies. It used to be so much fun. The housing development I grew up in, used to have a parade put on by the kids and then a Halloween party at the local elementary school. One of my favorite events was the cake walk. I remember winning a cake one year. Actually, we used to do so many fun things – we would have 4th of July parades, charity fun fairs where Captain Twenty (local TV personality) would come out for the whole day, MCing events, giving out prizes, signing autographs, above mentioned Halloween events, Christmas events, Easter Egg hunts all over the neighborhood, most of the events were organized by the Girl Scouts and the neighborhood citizens committee (NOT an HOA – they were MUCH better than that). Man, we used to have so much fun. That was back in mid-late 60s. By the time I started High School in the early 70s, it all faded away. Sigh.
