A woman had been widowed seven times. Someone asked her what happened and she replied that her first six husbands died from eating poisoned mushrooms. Then she was asked what happened to the seventh. She said that he wouldn’t eat his mushrooms.
There’s a Monty Python sketch where two of the “pepper pots” are talking and one says she just spent four hours burying the cat. “Four hours to bury the cat?” says the second. “Yes” says the first. “Wouldn’t keep still, wrigglin’ about, howling…”
This reminds me of a recent film release I would highly recommend, The Devil to Pay. The performances were extraordinary, especially the lead’s. Fair warning, though … unlike John’s strip today, it’s not funny in the slightest.

That’s grandma and her sister. I remembered them dressing like that in 1955. Her sister did go through a few men in her day!
