My growing up years were sufficiently dysfunctional (one mom, two step-moms), that I never developed any strong Christmas traditions. I grudgingly adopted those of my first in-laws. When I remarried, my new wife came from a family without strong Christmas traditions. Thirty years on and Christmas is still no big deal for me.

Did you know that in the original Welsh version, “Don we now our gay apparel,” was “Fill the mead cup, drain the barrel”? And “See the blazing yule before us,” was “See the flowing bowl before us”! (Then came the temperance movement…)

I miss days like this. More like me and 3 dogs now, plus some friends.

Joy is good for your health. And it’s a choice.

May you find love (compassion), hope, joy and inner peace this Christmas and good health and safety in the New Year.

This strip is set in 1991. In five days, the Pattersons, along with the rest of the free world are going to get a wonderful gift not seen since 1945 (that was when the Nazis were overthrown). The Soviet Union is dying, and even the most diehard advocates now realize central planning doesn’t work. The Cold War will be over in five days, and socialism lost.

Merry Christmas. Praise God and liberty.

Happy holidays aren’t always merry when you marry but their still worth it.

Gene, I really like “fill the mead cup, drain the barrel. See the flowing bowl before us.”

This shows that there is still a bit of the boyhood left in “to cool for Christmas, Mike”.
