I hate squirrels. Years ago they ruined a $60 bird feeder. I switched to thistle seed, which they don’t eat, and had visits from chickadees. I miss those, they aren’t in Australia..

I see that the squirrels left a Tale tail trail to follow. I use a chain and on top of the feeder there is a four foot inverted bowl. So far the furry rascals haven’t figured out how to get past it. But give them time, they are good problem solvers.

There is a woodsy hill behind our apartment building. The critters all seem to work together. One of our neighbors put up some bird feeders. We have watched while the birds will throw some of the seeds down onto the ground so that the squirrels & chipmunks can eat as well. The squirrels rarely climb up onto them. We’ve also seen our resident Cardinal (whom we call King Cardinal) pipe out a warning when a predator bird is flying overhead.

I’ve got squirrels here that are the size of small dogs! Baffles on bird feeders are nothing to them!
