My understanding is that you don’t put salt on the ground while it’s snowing. You put that down before it snows, or after it’s done snowing just before the next snow.
Salt is very corrosive to concrete & will kill grass/vegetation on the side of sidewalks & should be used a little as possible. It can be dragged inside onto your floors by way of sticking to shoes/boots, inside your house, when you go in, making a real mess. Using sand is a bit better. Salt use around vehicles will cause a lot of pretty quick expensive rusting. I know, as I used to live in NY.
What a nice neighbour though. Obviously we see that he lives in the yellow clapboard house. Then he goes over to the neighbour’s red brick house and shovels their snow. Even shoveling and salting their steps. But oops now he doesn’t have enough time so he just spreads the salt over the top of the snow on his own driveway! Now that is unselfishness par excellence.
After a huge ice storm, I was sent out to spread decider on the walkways between buildings where I work. I was about halfway up the hill to. 2nd building when an individual from that building came out for a smoke. He fell, slipped downhill where he plowed into me, knocking me down. Normally not that big of a deal. However while at work we are required to wear safety glasses. Falling I smacked my face into the ground, cutting my eyebrow from the side shield. 6 hour wait for stitches at the hospital. My cut was minor compared to all the fractured wrists, ankles and legs.Incident report: Cut from safety glasses side shield from fall while spreading de-icer.
This is exactly my house. I have a teen age boy, but I am the one clearing the snow. And I am always tripping and slipping over the dog toys and dog bones all over the floor. Complaining never helps.

Sorry, but OSHA, or whatever the Canadian equivalent is, can’t help you in your own house.

I hate irony. I also hate jacks and Lego’s. Not fond of dog bones either. (..does anyone play jacks or marbles any more?)

Have Gordon help. He is squatting on your property and busted Elly’s car, so make him work off the damages and earn his room and board!

It could have been worse. He could have stepped on a Lego brick.
