I do sometimes worry whether my highest calling is to be a bad example. And work at making it not happen that way. Though, mostly not because I worry about it.

Wish “be like this guy” was on this comic!

I’ll bet he learned it from a song-writing janitor!

I did learn things from my (thousands) of rides as a hitchhiker, even if it was only, ‘I don’t want to be like that.’

if only more of our role models were actual “be like this guy” kind of people.

The value in a bad example is to avoid replicating. The best value in finding a good example is that you can replicate it but add your own lyrics.

All good comments, as is usually the case.

Mark Twain once commented that he provided a valuable public service by serving as a bad example.

Or by comments board example: Try to teach graciously when you spot an error because you do not know why it was made. Try to learn graciously when the error is yours because we all screw up and we all have the capacity to learn if we try. Try to not be the third party troll who repeatedly jumps in to kick the person who is learning that day just to temporarily pretend that you are a tad superior.

You’re always an example or a lesson.
