You know which presidents also had bizarre beards? Lorenzo Snow and Joseph F. Smith, fifth and sixth presidents of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the formerâs sister was a plural wife of Joseph Smith, the latter being Joseph Smithâs nephew).
The âRichardâs Poor Almanacâ recounting Hayes and the White House Easter Egg roll has to come up â itâs why kids always associate âRutherford B. Hayesâ with âFunâ after all!
I know beards are more popular now than they were, say, 50 years ago, but unfortunately we may never see a president with facial hair in my lifetime. (Actually, now that Ted Cruz has a beard we have our first bearded Senator in ages, but heâs unlikely to make it to president and thatâs a good thing.)

We need to share this with historian Heather Cox Richardson. I donât think the history books given RBHâs beard enough credit.

This whole comic story plot with Rutherford Hayes was sketchy at first, but now the beard is beginning to grow on me.

Petey, My Hero, is so creative! And The Beard of Hayes is such a powerful topic! Iâd give Peteyâs project an A!
