Are we really here? I read a few weeks ago an article that the universe could really be just a computer simulation. Red or blue pill? If this comic really is from 1991, it then predicts the Matrix movie by some 8 years!
If Susie only knew that all she has to do is crook her little finger and she would have her own purring tiger. Many girls eventually learn how to do it.
Possibly the funniest aspect about this particular strip is how confusing it would be to someone reading it without knowing the context behind it. Watterson obviously did his best to make sure every strip could stand on its own despite being part of an ongoing storyline, but sometimes I’m sure it was fun just to forego the explanations and let the readers figure things out for themselves.
His second question is pretty dumb, tho. Susie clearly hadn’t seen Calvin or his duplicate at any other time in the last two minutes. The question of whether he’s “still” there or “back again” is academic.
If you consider that Hobbes is actually Calvin and so is the duplicate, then you can see the complexities of Calvin trying to figure out how to be noticed by girls and gauge reactions.
