Back in 2019, a few months before I retired, I realized that a fixed income and expensive haircuts didn’t mix. I’d cut my hair a couple of years earlier (30" down to 2-3"), and figured I could go even shorter (1-2"), so I ordered a pair of salon type scissors. Then, 4 months into my retirement … Lockdown. So I’ve been cutting my own hair all year, standing in front of the mirror—I comb my fingers through my hair, lifting it up, then cut close under my fingers, shaping and trimming as needed. Surprisingly, it looks good—sort of a tousled Judi Dench look. (Can’t testify as to the condition of the back, however)

It’s true that Rose isn’t a professional hairstylist. A professional knows that when styling hair you carry on a conversation with your victim .. er .. customer.

When cutting my hair, my wife sticks to her work; but it’s her laughter and apologies that trouble me.

This may take a while, Jimbo…might as well take a nap in that chair while you’re waiting!

We know that this hairstylist is getting a well-deserved romantic kiss when she’s done!

I think Vicki may be better suited for this task.

My barber will accept a phone call during a haircut only to schedule another patron’s appointment.

Thanks to Covid, I’ve just learned that you don’t use water with that electric hair cutting thing.

Why am I imagining Mrs Donovan nee Othmar’s voice for a couple of days?

Rose shouldn’t have answered the phone. BUT! I think she’s reluctant to cut Jimbo’s hair, so she did. AND she shouldn’t have said she was free to talk (when she wasn’t) BUT! Did I say she’s reluctant to cut Jimbo’s hair? So, she did… :D

As a relatively introverted person – I always find such conversations a little uncomfortable/awkward. I actually don’t mind if they are talking to someone else – because I sometimes like to lurk on conversations – as long as they can pay attention to cutting my hair.

It happens all the time in small salons that don’t have a receptionist. They don’t always stop to talk to friends, but they always have to stop to answer the phone or sign in a customer.

Given that Rose’s ideal of masculine beauty is being bald on top, Jimbo should probably wait for the barber to get back.
