Parents will enjoy getting the benefits of underpaid babysitters until the new variant takes its toll.

My kids have been attending in school learning since the beginning of the year. Except that entire district shut down for two weeks after the Christmas break and did remote learning.

There is little to no reason for the schools to be closed. Especially the elementary schools.

We cannot shut down the world forever. We take appropriate precautions and do what we can – it’s not all that hard to do. With or without a vaccine.

Our district gave the option of remote learning or in school learning at the beginning of the year. The teachers were given the option as well and must show up to the school to teach, even if they are instructing for remote learning. They set up a time schedule as well. It was a parental option.

Every couple of months the remote learners have the option of switching to in school learning and if possible staffing is shifted. In school learning can swap to remote learning without much difficulty as that is much easier.

Each class has recess time, and only with their own class. The classes cannot mingle together. Parental drop off is encouraged, however school buses still run the routes and that is the parent’s option. We complete an assessment form every morning to state that our children can go to school without symptoms.

This is not difficult. Classes were held outside a lot as well so long as the weather was OK.

I get that this cannot happen everywhere. Our schools have plenty of land, but in the city of 100,000 next to us that isn’t always the case. And I’ve seen elementary schools in NYC that have very little outside space so they can’t always separate.

I personally have no problem with my children going to school – BUT it is a PERSONAL choice. My now 9 year old last year told me during remote learning “I’m not learning anything daddy? It sucks.” Remote learning is doing more harm to our children than we can even fathom.

Mental health issues, suicides, and drug use are all up. In kids.

I believe the kids should go back to school, AFTER all the teachers who want the vaccine have received it. But as a kid, I HATED school and I’m not sure I believe all the news stories about kids pining to go back.

It’s all great, until the parents that have been working at home get Covid from their kids. Most will survive, but odds have it, not all.

Kids used to hate going to school, and would do whatever they could to avoid it… now that they haven’t been able to go, they want to? Methinks it is more the parents wanting the free babysitting…
