As I recall, there is one of Fred Saberhagen’s Berserker stories where a farmer destroys the brain of a giant robotic space ship by growing squash at it. Granted, it takes a while.

Maybe the ground will warm when we lose a couple of feet or so of snow.

Down here in South-Central Texas, most of the snow is gone from last weeks anomalous Winter storm.

For us the wild flowers are blooming now. Not as colorful as usual due to poor winter rains but still beautiful in the desert.

The best plant for keeping critters out of your garden in Crown Imperial. They smell of dog dirt. Several of them will also keep your neighbor’s pesky kids at a distance, as well. They are absolutely lovely, but man, oh, man! Talk about beauty only being skin deep!

They are native to Central America, and the bulbs were carried back to Spain by the early explorers. I honestly don’t know how those sailors could have tolerated a hold full of those bulbs – but I guess they didn’t smell much worse than the ship did before they loaded the flowers. Maybe it was an improvement?

The flower apparently never heard that you should let sleeping dogs lie.
