Shouldn’t expect Varvel to understand world-wide gasoline supply/demand; especially when he thinks tax cuts for the rich help reduce economic inequality.
The OPECCartel cuts the output of oil extraction and Gary-Boi blames Biden for the price increases?? And let’s remember that the majority of refineries, in Texas are still off-line because of the winter storm down there and Gary-Boi blames Biden for the price increases??
Yeah! Those of us who didn’t burn, would drown, but at least we’d be able to continue to suck down dead dinosaurs at an unrealistic discount that completely ignores the cost to the commons!
The only possible effect the pipe line could have had on anything in the USA is that it would have put the truckers who are currently bringing that oil from Canada to Texas out of work. Those are permanent jobs, unlike the ones building the pipeline, which were temporary.
The reason gas prices were so low was so much of the country didn’t go anywhere. Now, as things open back up (some quicker than others) prices are going back up. Plus so many of the oil refineries in TX are still out of commission because of the cold snap down there a few weeks ago. It’s simple supply and demand.
According to Gasbuddy, the price of gas has already been impacted as millions of barrels of refining capacity have gone offline due to the extreme cold in the South.
“The quicker the affected refineries are able to come back online, the better, and perhaps less painful for motorists than if they remain out of service for even longer,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
“Oil prices have continued to rally as global oil demand recovers from the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and now the extreme cold weather shutting refineries down, us motorists just can’t seem to catch a break. We probably won’t see much, if any relief, anytime soon.”
Even Republicans have been known to say right out loud that presidents have next to nothing to do with gas prices. Of course, I guess that’s usually when the president is a Republican.

If you didn’t insist gasoline engines you wouldn’t be having this problem.

I’m surprised Varvel didn’t blame the gas prices directly on Biden stopping the pipeline. Which would have been a lie, of course.

Biden’s been in office for 50 days. I could believe that Varvel was doing the cartoon equivalent of /s, but it’s Varvel so I know he isn’t.

Varvel is absolutely right. The markets read Biden’s anti-fossil fuel agenda and respond accordingly.
