Tips, border collie. We kept a large stainless steel tub full of water. (or tried to) Summer months that dog would go immerse himself in it and keep just the tip of his nose resting on the edge of the tub. We would clean the tub, fill with fresh water, he would then “dig” in it, turn around and get right back in.

I get birds and occasionally a squirrel in my bird bath, but never a dog. Something big knocked it over one night once, maybe a deer or worse.

But when they try to give him a bath, he heads for the next county! And border collies are supposed to be smart.
