That you’re outdoors and enjoying not being locked down?

It is officially Spring.

Our crocuses bloom every spring like this, and have for thirty wonderful years!

No, daffodils are a few particular types of narcissus. Not all narcissi are daffodils. Jonquils are a group of slightly different narcissi.

Daffodils are considered a plant of death as is being referred to funerals.

To paraphrase Will, “A narcissus by any other name would smell as sweet.”

Or perhaps Gertrude Stein, “A narcissus is a narcissus is a narcissus.”

And all flowers are covered by the term posies.

I enjoyed “being locked down” as I would definitely not enjoy being in the ER, or ICU while gasping for air.

Janis is the important thing to remember? I hope Arlo knows that!

I planted 75 King Daffodils, one came up. I guess the critters ate the rest.

I recently read that here in central NC, there is a problem with an invasive species crowding out native flowers, known as the ‘fig buttercup.’ From the News & Observer: “Fig buttercup, or ficaria verna, is a bright yellow flower with glossy petals about the size of a nickel, surrounded by heart-shaped leaves the color of fresh spinach.”

It’s been creeping into yards and can inadvertently be spread by mowing etc. The problem is that its dense petals block sunlight and prevent anything from growing underneath it.

Remember to stop and enjoy the flowers, whatever kind.

Spring has sprung, the grass has ris’, where the heck the flowers is?

For the linguistic types, literary people and horticulturalists. What came first? The narcissus or the narcissist?

I’m assuming that either by features or the root word there is a connection.

No daffodils, but the roses are blooming now.

You cannot hammer a girl into anything. She grows as a flower does, she will wither without sun; she will decay in her sheath as a narcissus will if you do not give her air enough; she might fall and defile her head in dust if you leave her without help at some moments in her life; but you cannot fetter her; she must take her own fair form and way if she take any.
