Argue as you will, each of us has talents unique to us alone. It is the discovery of those talents, whether through the well worn nature or nurture theme or otherwise that takes up most of our early years. It is the improvement of and use of those talents that take up most of our waking hours – and quite a few of our dreams. In our later years, it is our success in that process by which we determine if we have lead satisfactory lives. T’is ever thus. Youth is striving for maturity. Age is maturity looking back at youth.

It probably went back and forth and the line blurs. Now, looking down the barrel at 60, I’m that kid all over again, determined to circumvent the aging process just as much, though in the opposite direction. And this time around I know to commit more doing than wishing.
The V-shaped washboard never did quite materialize, and the odds get slimmer as I perhaps don’t. Fortunately, swimming and running and stuff are fun for their own sake. No work ethic required.

Wait until you’re older, kid. Then you can do sit-ups AND work your lats to get that V-shape. A “washboard” alone won’t do it.
