I’ve played hockey. “Icing the puck” isn’t a penalty, but “icing the ginger bread man in the middle of play” is definitely delay of game, which is a penalty.
Come to think of, it could be “too many men on the ice”, also a penalty.
My parents were Canadian, my father was a hockey player but I grow up in Southern California and no one taught me what icing is…someone helpful explain it please…and no I don’t mean the kind the hockey player is doing in the strip today. Thank you
Hockey’s not for me but I admire the players and the stamina and toughness it requires. And totally understand those living “up north” going in for it. But, give me American football any day. RTR!
I grew up in Ohio, where we played proper Murcun sports, like football (but not futbol……); closest we came to hockey was smashing beer can & whacking it around on college lake without a clue what we were doing (but we were teenagers and we had beer, so it was OK). Married a Chicago girl. Both brothers-in-law played semi-pro, one making it so far as a pre-season game for the Blackhawks. Been in a family with these guys for nigh well on to 4 decades now – and I _still have no idea what the rules of hockey are. Perhaps this is why I find it more boring than futbol – or maybe cause and effect are the other way around.

The player committing the icing infraction is Ben Street. #36 on the NJ Devils.

I had to look up “icing” and was surprised to learn there are rules in hockey.
(Now that I think about it, I did know there is some rule about how to carry your war-club.)

So only gingerbread men without frosting are allowed in hockey?
Major Matt Mason Premium Member almost 4 years ago
He used PAM, so at least the gingerbread man isn’t high-sticking.

Number’s supposed to go on the back of the sweater. Looks like New Jersey Devil player with his sweater on backwards.

To further pun-ify the cartoon: He could be putting the icing on a Shakespearean Robin Goodfellow… (Icing the Puck)
