I do wonder why, when Trudeau was working on this storyline, what made him think to bring back Kim Rosenthal, who was a character who had a few storylines as a baby in the 70s and then vanished, He could have created a new character to hook Mike up with, but he brought back Kim. Maybe he always intended to have her come back in or maybe he was thinking about having Mike date a Vietnamese / Asian woman and suddenly realized that he already had a character he could use, I’m not sure. Just pondering…
I agree, Mike, I could never figure out whatever signals they thought they were sending either. So many went right over my head, only to come back and dope slap me days/weeks/months/years later when I finally caught on. Glad I’m too old to have to deal with that anymore….
This story arc first ran in February of 1996 and its one of my favorites in my over 45 years of reading Doonesbury. Kim is a perfect match for Mike.. First she’s the sexy fox that mike always dreamed about finding and she has none of JJ’s faults and she’s brilliant enough to mentor Alex as she grows up. She’s the exact opposite of JJ and from now on Mike lives a pretty good life because she’s with him.
I used to have trouble picking up on those little cues. One beauty walked up to me and said, “Wanna get lucky? Just kidding.” I must say, it got my attention.
Mike’s behaviour is typical of when people get money. There was a study done in England of Labour voters who won a substantial lottery. Pretty much all of those voters turned to the Conservatives immediately.

I see the context but I googled that if it has a slang meaning other than starting a ’puter. No luck.

Who knew a mutual interest in tax avoidance would prove such a lasting basis for a relationship?

“No tax on capital gains.” Surely something that would benefit the average taxpayer.

Capital gains should be taxed as regular income. And they will be under President Biden’s tax reform.

I’m awful at figuring out if someone’s interested in me. I try too hard when I’m interested in someone else. Nice combination.

Except for the Steve Forbes thing (I was never THAT stupid!), I see a bit of the younger me in Mike Doonesbury.

Many decades ago (sigh!) I had a love affair with a German girl. No one approaching problem with her. I’m not American.
