This sounds like a night at my son’s place in Queens, NYC, near the elevated 7 train, and the fire station, with his two kids in diapers, and walls so thin that you can hear a neighbor’s phone ring – when its set on vibrate!
I live 1/4 mile down a 1/2 mile cul-de-sac at the end of a 300’ driveway in the woods with greenbelt surrounding me on a small lake. The birds do wake us up in the morning but we go to sleep to the sound of frogs, crickets, owls and something that goes screech in the night. Oh, and yes, we are in the city limits and
I used to live in Brooklyn sandwiched between other apartments on all sides.
On my morning walk I go through a neighborhood that used to be separated from the adjoining neighborhood by a patch of forest with a stream running through it.
The stream now runs underground through a culvert and has been replaced by an interstate highway.
We live in the country, but our road parallels an Interstate. In the summer it’s not too bad, but in the winter, when the trees are bare, there are times when the noise is loud enough to make us move inside.

Maybe the birds now drive cars…

That’s part of why I went with double-paned windows (and got the energy savings credit at the same time).

Let me guess: this is not a rural location?

The joy of city living, but you switch it off after a while.

Move to the country. The birds have been waking me up before 5 am these days.

Nothing jars us awake like a flicker hammering away on the metal gutter when the sun is barely peeping over the horizon at 5 AM.
