I’m just intrigued whether the chicken Plugger gives birth or lays eggs.

Since gender is a sociological construct the only gender in a hospital nursery is baby, everyone has their expectations of babies, they are cute and cuddly, will cry to get attention they feel they need or deserve. Sex on the other hand is anatomical. They are or they are not. There is a big difference between male/female and masculine/feminine, and never forget those of us born with a hermaphroditic condition some of us fit in the “are not” category for both undifferentiated.

Isn’t he supposed to give out do-nuts for a girl?

I was only a kid the last time I saw this but I think the cigars would have a blue or pink band on them. So compared to what happens now, it might have been one of the least ridiculous gender reveal stunts.

I’m more than old enough to be a Plugger, but I’ve never seen anyone hand out cigars after childbirth. I fell into a non-smoking crowd early.

Dad making an announcement in the waiting room was enough.

In the early days of ultra sound, it wasn’t always accurate. Friends of mine got pregnant after years of “trying”. They were very careful about the mom’s health and had an ultra sound at around 6 months. This revealed that they were expecting a boy, so they cheerfully shared that news with everyone. 3 months later their daughter was born.

If those were exploding cigars, they would fit right in with whatever they use to blow up things these days.

Considering how disastrous some gender reveal parties have been in recent years, it’s much safer to hand out cigars or candy.

32 years ago we went (unknowingly) to a baby reveal party. My sister bought everyone appropriate mugs and gave them to us as gifts at the party (to be opened there) to tell us she was pregnant. (It was an extremely hard on husband and me as we did not know they were trying and we had been doing so for some years – which she knew – unsuccessfully.)
