There is a reason god is not mentioned in the constitution. The constitution is the rule of the land, not the bible. Keep your religion out of government or start paying taxes. When ever a preacher starts bringing politics into their sermon and tell the flock whom to vote for, tax the crooks.

The US Constitution contains 4543 words. None of them are “god”, “jesus”, or “bible”. The mention of religion in the US Constitution is in the 1st Amendment where it states “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…”, and Article 6 where it states “no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.”

Furthermore, in Lemon v. Kurtzman, the SCOTUS in 1971 ruled that 1) a statute must have a secular, not religious purpose, 2) The principal effect of the statute should not be to aid or inhibit religion, and 3) A statute should not foster excessive entanglement with religion. This became known and referred to as the “Lemon test”.

Whether anyone likes it or not, the United States IS a secular nation.

God does not get a vote on this. He just has to do a better job. Any effort would be nice. Maybe he could actually show up for once.

No, He knows that when Church and State mix, the State starts controlling God instead of the other way around.

Christianity is dying in England. You know what England has? An official religion. We’ve always been a very religious country. That’s because we DON’T have an official religion. And religion has been doing badly in the United States precisely at the same time that the Dominionists have become influential in the Government.

And we know have “Christians” who will accept and defend ANYthing – the worst behavior imaginable – as longs as it’s done by a “conservative.” And that’s for the sake of political power.

Funny, a majority of folks don’t see that thumb.

My concern is about anyone who sees (or claims to see) that thumb.

Even in a cartoon, the whole concept that there is some higher power watching what humans do, and judging their actions, is beyond idiotic. Did I offend? Complain to your god, maybe I’ll get struck dead. It might be an improvement over dealing with outdated religious concepts.

America IS secular. Always has been. Individual citizens are free to pursue their religious (or non-religious) beliefs as they see fit. It’s called “freedom.”

Thankfully, Sky Daddy doesn’t vote. If he did, only the high priest would be able to tell us what it is.

God has nothing to do with religion. Religions like it that way because they would all be in trouble if he/she/they did. For example all religions say “God Is Love.” Great!! That means everyone, and I do mean everyone, goes to heaven. You don’t have to go to church, you don’t have wear really uncomfortable clothing, you don’t have to give money or obey silly rules, you get a free pass. If you didn’t do so hot this time, try and do better next time. What? Of Course. You get as many chances as you want, who did you think was in charge of this? Its you, you are doing this, you are making the rules you live by. If you tell me it is God, I will say you are right, Thou Grok It In Fullness. God is You, You are God. It cannot be otherwise, Carl Sagan was literally right when he said “We are all Star Stuff.”

So relax, do the best you can, you will get another chance. You can’t lose anyway, everyone goes to heaven, there is no other place to go.

On the seventh time the servant reported, “There is a man’s hand as large as a cloud rising from the sea.”

Meanwhile, the sky grew dark with clouds and wind, and a heavy thumb began to fall.

Four rabbis were having an argument. Three of the rabbis agreed, but the fourth didn’t. T

The fourth rabbi said, “G0d, show them that I’m right”. Storm clouds gathered in the sky. “So what?,” said the other rabbis. It’s a natural occurrence.

The fourth rabbi said,“Oh, Lord, please show them you agree with me.” A bolt of lightning struck a nearby field. “What do you expect from storm clouds?” the others say.

Then suddenly a deep voice comes from the clouds, shaking the earth, and the voice proclaims, “He’s right, you know.”

The 3 rabbis look at each other. One say, “Meh. It’s still 3 to 2.”

when you get right down to it Jesus has more in common with socialists (heal the sick, love thy neighbor, drive out the monylenders, feed the multitudes, help the poor & downtrodden etc) than Republican Christianity does.
