Honeymoon is okay with Mysta regarding Junior as her ideal man because Honeymoon herself treats him as a role model. Honeymoon wants to grow up to be just like him. She can’t deny that he’s ideal.
Junior is a fine man to emulate or to admire. The girls are having a glorious moment of reflection on the state of their common association. Junior is their “ideal”.
This just might be the first Tracy story where we get a slow crime day and everyone is just so happy to be alive.
And today Mysta’s horns are sparking whilst Honeymoons are quiescent. (In the first panel, anyway. They’re agitated in the third panel, probably by the mention of her Dad. I mean, what are parents for, if not to agitate their teen-aged offspring?)
The original Moon Maid, Sparkle, and now Mysta all have the hots for Junior. Why do all the beautiful blondes go for him, you think? (I know with Mysta it’s her programming, but still…)
This has indeed been a delightful bit of eye candy for the last three days with Mysta. I’m glad Team Tracy finally brought her out of the old outfits, into more traditional ones now. The swimsuit edition should be in Sports Illustrated (giggle) But yes the dialog I will agree. Junior, and Pop-Pop are indeed awesome and should be good role models to emulate.
Lots to unpack here! A floating tanning blanket. Arabians would pay a fortune for that now that their flying carpets have all stopped working. Also Mysta is hot for Honeymoon’s dad and she tells her about it??? Honeymoon’s mom should be very worried. Lastly, Mysta was programmed to be hot for Honeymoon’s dad? That’s next level Stepford Wives stuff there. The people in that Get Out movie (a warmed over Stepford Wives with a message in my opinion) were wasting their time using their equipment to just create household help! They could’ve been programming a lot of Mystas.
For anyone who is interested, here is the story of The Return of Moon Maid. It is 188 days long but is worth the read. It tells the whole story of the experiments on Mysta, how her mind was wiped and false memories implanted, and Mysta’s reaction when she finds Junior married to Sparkle. It also tells the story of what happens to the mad scientists, etc.
Anyway, here it is (well written with spectacular artwork):
Sorry folks, nothing about Moon Maid is overly interesting, even when Gould was “Lost in Space.” But I’m glad some of you guys seem to like ogling cartoon women. Hmmmm?
No offense intended, all the responses seem knowledgeable, interesting and explanatory. But I am sorry Sports fans, I am just confused. I feel I just read Modern Romance??
I know that this will seem like sacrilege to some, but I never like Chester Gould’s art. His writing was superb, but all the characters looked ugly to me, even the allegedly beautiful women like Moon Maid and Lizz and Tess. Also, he drew some nightmarish images. I forget the character’s name, but Gould’s depiction of a man running and freezing on the Moon still haunts me 60 years later. (That’s probably what he was trying to do.) But if I weren’t an atheist, I’d say “Thank God for Joe Staton!” He’s absolutely the best artist this strip has ever had, and Mike’s the second-best writer.
The last panel is a (probably) unintentional commentary on free will — I mean, HoneyMoon doesn’t"blame" Mysta for seeing her Dad as the ideal male, but as Mysta says, she was programmed that way. If she was, then she had no agency in how her feelings developed, & thus could not be “blamed” for them. I know, I know, Mike just wanted to have some cute dialogue showing Honeymoon’s affection for her father ….
More “girl talk” also serves as backstory. And we get to see the mellow relationship between “Big Sis” and “Little Sis”! It’s all quite charming, to be sure.
But we need to see or hear of a Bad Guy doing some Bad Stuff, and soon. This is Dick Tracy, not some treacly soap opera. We’re weeks into this arc and there is yet only the slimmest of hints of Nefarious Deeds….

1-HORNY: STOP IT! I’M NOT GOING TO PLAY BULL FIGHTER WITH YOU!
2-HONEYMOONS OVER: But you got those horns…
HORNY: So do you, dimbulb. HONEYMOONS: Oh. Yeah.
3-HONEYMOONS: Fine. Well then, I’m going to pretend to be Snow White and wait for a Prince’s kiss to wake me from my vodka-induced slumber.
HORNY: If I play Prince’s song, KISS, will that get you up and outta here?
HONEYMOONS: SSKKXXXXxxxxxxxx!!!!
HORNY: DAM! I wonder if I can plug my ears with these horns…
