At the risk of being annoyingly pedandtic, the females are silent. Also those who imply a cicada free existence for the next 17 years, there are 17 broods. The current one is brood 10. The next brood to emerge is #13 in 2024, west of brood 10 and #14 in 2025., south of brood 10. There is some overlap
