As Cleveland fans say “Let’s root, root, root for the home team. If they don’t win what else is new.”

“Rockers” was too close to “Rockies.” They should have just become the Cleveland Rocks. What a missed opportunity.

I’d vote for Flames or Flamers (Cuyahoga River fire).

I was pulling for Spiders. I get the local connection to Guardians, but it sounds like a third-class indoor football team. Just my opinion, and they didn’t ask for it.

“Rockers”…since the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is in Cleveland?

There WAS a team called the Cleveland Rockers. They were one of the eight original WNBA teams.

And I liked Cleveland Spiders too. Cleveland Guardians sounds like a home alarm system.

There are so many cursed names, that it’s practically impossible to say anything.

Since Cleveland is considered to be The Mistake by the Lake, what about The Cleveland Mistakes?

My wife’s family came from Norway, I have yet to hear any of that huge bunch of people complain about a NFL team called the Vikings.

The Cleveland Guardians … sounds like something you’d hear on Hysterical Channel’s Ancient Aliens faux programs.

So is the idea to remove any reference to native Americans and just forget they ever existed?

I personally liked their old name – the Cleveland Spiders. Could have even spelled it “Spyders” to shake things up.

Cleveland Guardians is already used by a roller derby team. They are suing the baseball team for copyright infringement. Maybe “Flaming Rivers” would be a better name for the baseballers.

I’m still thinking pilfering the Space Force’s name is…, Well it’s the Space Force….

They should have kept the “I” to reflect what was truly happening, and called them “Cleveland Idiots”.

“Spiders” was right there.

It seems to me that the use of names such as “Indians” became controversial before, probably in the late 1960’s or early 1970’s. Because of this, Stanford University changed their mascot from “Indians” to “Cardinal”, which was fine. But what confused me and my naive self was, why did Stanford have to change their name, when the Cleveland Indians, whose depiction of an Indian in the form of Chief Wahoo seemed vastly more demeaning than anything Stanford used, did not? At least Cleveland and the Washington Football Team finally got with the program, even if it was 45 to 50 years late.
