Lisa Benson was SILENT when the TrumpubliQans voted to pass the Trump corporate welfare and tax giveaways to the few richest elites who already had the most — a massive, multi-trillion package of drunken spending that did NOTHING to build this country or help everyday working people.
In contrast, the Biden packages — the bipartisan bill on hard infrastructure, and the reconciliation bill for human infrastructure — are packages of INVESTMENTS in the shared public and human resources needed to grow the economy, put people to work and build prosperity from the bottom up, not wild drunken spending. It represents INVESTMENTS that pay for themselves in increased productivity. ALL of it goes for good-paying middle-class jobs and providing the resources that working people need to get back to work.
Oh yeah, and putting people to work building the things that empower economic growth also expand the economic base — the tax base — and turn those who receive benefits into taxpayers who provide benefits, which is why only Democrats and liberals preside over sustainable prosperities while supporting economic growth.
You can’t rebuild infrastructure and address decades of neglect for free. Republicans ignored it, and each time added more to the cost. Time to start actually investing in our country again to get it back to the forefront.
Isn’t Lisa a capitalist? How come she has no clue why gas prices are rising due to capitalist supply and demand!! Like every other thing they spout but have no understanding of. The Republicans say they support the cops but they don’t want to hear what happened to the Capitol police on 1/6. They are out there supporting the insurrectionists instead!!! How about that LISA!!
We have the “Port Mann Bridge” which connects Surrey and beyond to Coquitlam/Burnaby/Vancouver. They had to replace the bridge a few years ago, so to do it without jacking up taxes, they made a deal with the builders that if THEY built the bridge then THEY could collect by charging a toll for every vehicle crossing the bridge (this would only last for ten years or so). So, they built the bridge, put an automated toll system in place (every car using the bridge had to register and put a “bar code” type sticker on their windshield) and traffic on the bridge dropped drastically, which is what we all wanted to see happen. It was one of those routes that became gridlocked every weekday, and with the new bridge and tolls, traffic dropped to the point that you could drive the speed limit in either direction, at any time of day. It was wonderful. I didn’t mind the toll, it was not a huge amount, but it made people think and carpool, or use public transit instead. UNFORTUNATELY, after the next election, which brought in a different party to head the provincial government, THEY decided that no bridge should be allowed to charge tolls, and cancelled them. Now, the taxes had to go up to buy the bridge from the builders. And, the worst part, we are back to GRIDLOCK on the bridge during most of the day. It’s only free-flowing at night now. :P
Actually, Lisa’s fear of toll roads and six dollar gas might not be such a bad idea. The higher gas price will cut down on CO2 emissions as well as provide a tax base for repayment of the loan necessary to rebuild our infrastructure. Great job, Lisa.
What an evil agenda: making the US a better place after years of neglect and self serving Republican actions. If capitalism is our form of government, then of course, sell it o the highest bidder there are no consequences in the Republic of Republicianistan
Let’s all say No to improvements and modernization. By all means, let’s keep the 1950’s infrastructure a little while longer. What could possibly go wrong?
So there’s a few pot holes – go around ‘em. A sinkhole or two – no problem. So a few buildings collapse – it happens. Another dam failed – go raftin’. It’s just to high a ticket – let’s do nothing to fix it. Just one little thing more.; you only get what you pay for.
Yes, much better to line the pockets of the ultra rich than to improve the backbone of this country. By the way, gas prices are based on supply and demand, not the infrastructure package, as you well know.
as I understand it. . .a push for toll roads is in the "bi-partisan’ proposalhttps://theintercept.com/2021/07/23/infrastructure-privatization-toll-roads/
In light of the fallout from the realities of the January 6 demonstration/riot some of the cartoonists have been tempering their right wing stances but not Lisa. She’s gonna hang in there. No reason for the truth to intervene with her “artistry”.
Pelosi calls McCarthy ‘a moron’ for his mask mandate criticism
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy a “moron” after being asked by a reporter about his criticism of the Capitol physician’s mask mandate in the House, another sign of the souring relationship between the two House party leaders.
No apologies to anyone who may get offended (eat something to thicken your fragile skin) and if I get blocked so be it but Lisa Benson is full of f*#%ing shit.
Rick Scott was on Fox today saying “yes, everyone wants infrastructure improvements” but then claimed that “no one” wants taxes or fees raised. This is the same jerk who committed Medicare fraud while CEO of an insurance company – the company gave him a golden parachute and he got off wealthier than before while stealing from taxpayers. Then as governor, he hired a company convicted of abuse to work at a juvenile detention facility. As Senator and governor, he fights against taxes for the wealthy, fights against regulations even after the Miami building collapse and pretends that the need for infrastructure is just a “nice to have”. The wealthy take more advantage of infrastructure than the average person, but they don’t want to pay for it. Look at someone like Bezos who took his massive gains at Amazon to be able to play in space.
The Republicans want to turn the USA into a banana republic. That is why they love the would be dictator, Trump. The last thing they want is to be merely equal citizens with the rest of us.
just watching MSNBC and they are praising some “break-thru”. . . “crafted” . . .bi-partisan infrastructure bill that now has 18 republicans (which just shows it is worse, Romney is on board now . . .gag) . . .
the responsible thing to do is to kill this pork riddled thing , rescind the Trump_Bush tax cuts . . and pay down the debt from the covid relief. . .to help the infrastructure known as our currency

Republicans would rather take their chances on a crumbling bridge than force the ultra rich to pay their share of taxes.

What, Lisa, you figured infrastructure maintenance should be free? THAT sure shows the rest of us how smart you are!

Privatize all roads, toll both every couple miles on the interstate, every couple blocks in the city. The libertarians would love it.
