As long as girls photoshop themselves rail thin and post the pics on Social Media ….eating disorders are a huge problem.

Three days in a row of jokes about Candace being all messed up. The irony of this last one is that the phrase “just lose 10 pounds” is the exact phrase that Lynn Johnston uses about herself in interviews where she talks about her appearance.

I remember an article from one of the supermarket tabloids saying Vanna White was “overweight” at 127 lbs. (she’s 5’ 7" tall), and after she dropped 20 lbs. she was “perfect”.

    IMO, it’s a miracle she’s still alive!

I know she isn’t fat, but I think the obesity epidemic in America is a result of the success of our national effort to stop smoking. No science to quote or nebulous numbers. Just an observation.

    Lynn’s Comments:

Candace was an outstanding character to work with. She had a raw edge and an independence the other girls admired. Underneath, she had a troubled soul. I never had the opportunity to give her the spotlight and show readers what I knew about her. Again, the restriction to one statement a day made some stories impossible.

I have no idea what smokers deal with. I have never smoked anything in my life. Back when I was a teenager, athletes did not smoke. We could not take the chance of it affecting us.

I have never been a smoker, but I have known several relations and some friends who have smoked. Every one who gave up – however hard the giving up was at the time – has been so glad, so relieved and so happy to be free of the stuff at last. Please – don’t start, if you haven’t already done so! Be yourself, not a stinking ashtray.

I hate carrying that smoke smell around when you have been in a room with a smoker. You get all gussied up, and end up smelling like an ashtray. Even the dog stinks in a smoker’s home.

When you light up a smelly cigarette, people around you lose their appetite too. So glad they don’t allow smoking in restaurants in FL anymore!

I smoked for about a year when I was about 18. Not more than one or two butts a day and I hid the pack from my mother in a small cedar wood lock box. After keeping them in there four a month or so, they were so foul that I quit on the spot and never smoked again.

i smoked from 14 to 48. I haven’t smoked for 25 years and last year I was diagnosed with COPD. The doctors all said if you quit for ten years, it’s liked you never smoked at all. They lied.

I have an acquaintance that smokes like a chimney, as the saying goes. I’m overweight, but this woman is huge! One is drawn to stare in amazement. The last time I saw her she had on a dress that made her look like she was tented for termites. I really don’t know what keeps her alive. She is also a heavy drinker. I would be sad to read her obit — sad, but not surprised.

You are on your way! Karen Carpenter died from heart failure at age 32 from anorexia.

And many others with the same mind set did also.
