Once lived in a small town which would have had that as the headline, if it had happened there. (Had a country in Africa blown up, it would have been small item on back page.)
In all reality , I just had a call from Gil Thorp touting a story that Cub reporter Heather wrote abut a golf hustler cheating members at the country club. Told Gil unless he went to the police we wouldn’t touch it.Good call , cheating on the golf course is part of the game .Damn bunch of cry babies.Get Marjie and Heather in here, I want the Milford Preseason Football edition to run on Wednesday !
A salesman from the town’s main manufacturing plant is expelled from the town’s main social and athletic facility for cheating on his handicap in order to win bets, and that’s not a story worth covering at the Star??? Remember, this is is same newspaper that for months published almost constant coverage of the appointment process for an opening on the library board.
Heath exploits have left Margie doubting herself. Are The Star Editor and Club Prez the same? When he assumes country club duties, he wears a fake mustache?
I like how Marjie is taking notes on this conversation using her pencil. ON HER LAPTOP SCREEN. Is anyone in Milford actually competent and tech savvy? Oh, besides Heather of course, and her ability to use Google which makes her a superstar reporter/detective.
And speaking of superstars, another comics superstar makes a cameo appearance today in Mopped Up Thorp.

Good to see the apple is still upside down on laptops in Milford. Why he would be on a laptop in a newspaper office, I can’t imagine.

Heather used google like any middle schooler does and Gil calls it ‘detective work’

P1, Marjie becomes a redhead today. Only her hairdresser knows for sure.
P2, Sorry, Marjie, but Gil and only Gil decides what a story is in this strip. You should know better.
P3, Looks like we’ll have to wait until Monday to find out if the boss has a full beard or goatee and whether his hair is still purple.

P-1: To honor the start of the Football season Marjie get’s her seasonal “Helmit Haircut”.
P-2: As the 80 year old coach’s Blood Pressure drops, Gil tries talking into his Walkman.
P-3: I think I may have dropped something under your desk.
